Electrical Panel: The panel was designed and built by Paneltronics and contains the system circuit breakers, generator controls, inverter controls, and sump pump controls.
Shore Power: Inlets for the cord are located on the aft deck and the utility deck. Shore power is routed as follows: 1. From the dockside connection. 2. To the Fore/Aft slide circuit breaker located on the starboard area of the shop. 3. To a 63 amp circuit breaker located in a cabinet on the forward bulkhead between the starboard engine and the isolation transformer. 4. To either the 120VAC, 208VAC, or 240VAC slide switches located on the panel. 5. Thru the voltage boost system if on 120VAC power and boost is selected. 6. To the panel thru either inverter #1 or inverter #2 slide switches.
Generators: Two 7.6 KW Westerbeke generators are available. Each unit is sized to run all of the air conditioning units at approximately 75% generator output. Only one generator can be operated at a time. The forward generator (number 1) has a hydraulic pump. Generator electrical power is selected by rotating a rotary switch located on the electrical panel.
Inverters: Two 4024 Xantrex inverters are available but a slide switch allows the output of only one inverter to power the electrical system at a time. The inverters feature Power Sharing which allows the use of additional amperage from the batteries when the available shore power loads are being exceeded. However, both inverter chargers can be operated simultaneously. This arrangement allows for higher charging rate and better charger cooling. The inverters are operated from the remote panels located on the main electrical panel.
Voltage Boost: The system is designed to boost voltage approximately 15% when on 15, 20, or 30 amp shorepower. The inverter in use needs to be programmed not to exceed the shorepower amperage. The boost transformer is limited to 30 amps.
Batteries: The house bank contains 12 Fullriver 8D batteries installed in the lazarette (new in 2015). The capacity is 1290 amp hours at 24 volts. This bank is normally used for main engine starting but additional batteries are available for backup starting. AGM batteries are also located on the starboard side of the engine room. One is used for generator starting and one is used as a surge protector and supplies 12 volt standby power to the bridge. These batteries can be paralleled if desired. The main battery bank is charged by the inverter/chargers and engine alternators. The generator start and surge battery are charged by their own dedicated charger and by the generator alternators. A Link 2000 battery monitoring system monitors both the main battery bank and the generator start battery.
AC Isolation and Electrolysis Protection: The AC system is isolated by use of a isolation transformer located on the forward starboard side of the engine room. Zinc anodes are mounted on the engine shafts, rudders, hull, and thrusters.
